Little Easter

"The disciples of John the Baptist approached Jesus and said, 'Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?' Jesus answered them, 'Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and they they will fast." Matthew 9:14-15

Sunday, especially during Lent, is a "little Easter" celebration. On Sunday it is appropriate to break the fast and celebrate as a community the salvation of Christ. How wonderful to be in solidarity with our communities! Not only do we intentionally fast and pray together during the week, but we also celebrate with Christ on Sunday's! We sing the words of scripture during the Mass, the "Holy, Holy, Holy" that it says will be sung for all time! Hosanna in the highest! And as we celebrate together Christ gives himself to us as real food in the Eucharist... the bridegroom is with us!

At Easter, adults who have been preparing for a year or more, will formally profess their faith to the community and enter into communion with the Church. This season always takes me back to my own journey. And now, it is so inspiring to walk with others as they make their journey to Christ and receiving Christ in the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. We really do have much to anticipate and celebrate! Come celebrate, journey, and pray with us as we walk through the desert to the resurrection!

Pax Tecum!
